In order to pick the grapes at their prime, we were at Kimsey Vineyard just after midnight (12:45!) on September 12th, 2016 for our hand harvest. We used just 5% Viognier to co-ferment with our Syrah, and basket pressed the wine about a month later. After 9 months of aging in a mix of old and new French oak barrels, the 2016 vintage was bottled in August of 2017.

93 Boscoe 2016 La Fai Kimsey Vineyard Syrah (Ballard Canyon). David Haskell’s elegant take on Syrah, in this case with 5% Viognier, presents crisp yet dark cranberry and pomegranate aromas as well as white pepper, green peppercorns and wild thyme on the nose. The herbal hints of sage and juniper show on the sip as well, where a slightly candied cherry fruit also pops out.
